Pacific Gateway Hotel Sustainability Initiatives

  • YVR-Airport-Hotel-Sustainability

Part of being your natural choice means taking action with environmentally conscious choices of our own. Our sustainability plan is growing every day; here are just a few of the ways we're working to protect our planet.

Pacific Gateway Hotel has reduced baseline greenhouse gas emissions by 11.8% as of 2017.

We also participate in the City of Richmond's Carbon Marketplace pilot program, an initiative that invests in local businesses and helps to offset the City's carbon footprint.

We’re a founding member of the Vancouver Tourism Facility Managers Association, an organization in the Lower Mainland that aims to reduce our collective carbon footprint by benchmarking, sharing best practices, and trying new technologies as a Green Destination.

Our chefs choose local, ethical products for our food and beverage outlets whenever possible. We even grow our own tomatoes right on the property!

Some of our local suppliers include:

Gelderman Farms – Abbotsford, BC
Pacific Provider – North Vancouver, BC
Pasta D’Angelo – Port Moody, BC
Golden Ears Cheese Crafters – Maple Ridge, BC
Two Rivers Specialty Meats – North Vancouver, BC
Mogiana Coffee – Richmond, BC
Naty Hazelmere Organic Farm – Surrey, BC
Maple Hill Farms – Abbotsford, BC
Mario's Gelati – Vancouver, BC
Batch Foods – Richmond, BC
Simply Bread – Richmond, BC
7 Seas – Vancouver, BC
Northern Divine – Sechelt, BC

Our chefs are dedicated to educating people on healthy eating and food systems and making a meaningful impact on our community. Executive Chef Morgan Lechner and his team have supported Growing Chefs! Chefs for Children's Urban Agriculture for more than 5 years. In fact, $1.00 of every Pacific Provider salmon entrée served at Pier 73 Restaurant is donated back to Growing Chefs.

Metro Vancouver has set a water reduction target of 30% by 2020.

Pacific Gateway Hotel has reduced water consumption by 24% so far by installing low-flow showerheads and aerators as well as dual flush low-flow toilets.

We're finding ways to reduce waste while still providing you with a luxurious and comforting guest experience.

By replacing our individual toiletries with zero waste pump amenities, we've eliminated the waste of 246,000 plastic bottles a year. Have no fear; these amenities are still luxurious Gilchrist & Soames products you recognize from high quality hotels around the world.

Our housekeeping team uses a digital service solution that automates daily operations; even better, it's eliminated the use of hard copy records, which means saving more than 70,000 sheets of paper annually.
